After getting slapped around in 2024, the top iBuyer is finally saying what agents have been yelling all along: “Work with us, not around us.” Instead of waiting for agents to bring deals, Opendoor is now handing out seller referrals to “trusted agent partners” in select markets — flipping the script like a Netflix season finale.
The pivot is simple: Agents are better at closing deals, reading seller needs, and moving fast. So why fight it? Even with revenue down 2%, Opendoor’s losses are shrinking — a sign that the agent-friendly shift might be working.
Meanwhile, Offerpad is taking the same hint, slashing losses by 14% and leaning into programs like Renovate and Agent Partnerships.
So yeah — iBuyers aren’t trying to replace agents anymore. They’re trying to hire them.
