Zillow Strikes Back
When disruption meets disruption: Zillow and Compass test the rules of real estate

Splits and Caps Daily: Action for Agents
July 1, 2025
📈 Market Move:
Clash for Control
So Zillow just pulled a “we make the rules now” move—and Compass is not having it.
Here’s the deal: Zillow announced it would stop showing listings that are publicly marketed but not on the MLS. Compass, which probably has a few of those up its sleeve, sued and filed for a preliminary injunction to stop that ban. Zillow has until July 18 to clap back in court, and they’re already prepping a motion to dismiss the whole thing.
But wait—this isn’t just legal drama. This is about control over visibility in real estate. Compass says this hurts them big time. Zillow’s lawyer says, “Y’all waited three months to sue, so how urgent can this be?” They also claim Compass is trying to kill off progress and drag us back to the Dark Ages of gated listing access.
So yeah…
Tech-powered platforms vs. traditional brokerages.
Transparency vs. exclusivity.
Internet access vs. insider info.
The chessboard is set—and the first big hearing could go down in September. Popcorn ready.
🌟Quote of the Day:
"If you can’t outplay them, outwork them." — Ben Hogan
⚡ Quick Win:
Film a “Real Talk” Clip: One minute. One take. No editing. Say:
“Here’s something most agents won’t tell you...”
Then drop a real truth (inspection gaps, pricing myths, timing tips). Raw > polished.
🎉 Fun Fact of the Day:
Bathroom Boundaries: You’re Legally Required to Have a Bathroom... In Almost Every State. There are building codes that require one toilet per dwelling, minimum. A helpful reminder that yes — toilets are a human right in zoning laws.
📚 Book Recommendation:
“The Art of the Start 2.0” by Guy Kawasaki—Alright, listen up — if you're trying to build something from scratch (a business, a brand, a real estate empire, or just your confidence to finally post on Instagram), this book is your startup bible.
Guy Kawasaki doesn’t waste time with fluff. This is tactical, battle-tested advice from the guy who helped launch Apple. Yes, that Apple. It's the “no BS” playbook for launching anything — whether you’re raising money, pitching clients, or building a personal brand from zero.
He talks about how to make meaning, not just money.
How to enchant people, not just sell them.
And how to build momentum before the engine is even fully running.
If you're in real estate and thinking, “I’m not a startup,” — I hate to break it to you: you are the startup. And this book will help you treat yourself like one.
Read it now. Thank yourself later.
Hard work compounds. So does avoiding it.
